Google Chrome... Google’s New Web Browser
By Ray Zimmerman
I’m writing this Intel specifically for those individuals that have not yet acquainted themselves with Google Chrome, the newest web browser available. Google Chrome was created to be super fast, very secure and easy to use. I have personally been using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer for years now and I have been reluctant to make a change. When version 8.0 was released, I gave it a try and found that it just didn’t do a very good job so I then reinstalled version 7.0. Recently I changed to Fire Fox 4.0 which runs circles around Internet Explorer. While I was doing some research on Google’s website, I decided to check out Google Chrome to determine if it would provide me with an enhanced browsing experience. It has been reported that Google Chrome is the fastest web browser available due to its application performance and its JavaScript processing speed. One of the major changes in web browsers is the merging of the address bar and the search box into one by Google Chrome. They were not the first to formulate this idea, but they were the first to implement it into a web browser. From the address bar, you will be able to search the internet and you’ll see matches from your browsing history and your bookmarks. While you’re typing you will be provided with suggestions for various search terms and popular websites. There’s a lot to be said about Chrome’s flexible tabs. I can’t tell you how many times that I have had to shut down my browser with the Windows Task Manager because one website completely disabled my browser. Chrome will allow you to simply close the effected tab without having to shut down your browser. That definitely sounds like a real time-saver. Security while browsing is becoming a major concern today with all of the individuals on the internet that want to do harm to others. Google Chrome will warn the user if they attempt to visit a website that is on their Google’s blacklist, which includes phishing sites and those sites that will attempt to download malware to your computer. Malicious software that might possibly be running in one tab cannot access any personal information that might possibly be exposed in any other tab. Google recently announced that they will be including Adobe Flash with their next version of Chrome. They also stated that Adobe Flash would be automatically updated with Chrome’s periodic updates. They have also provided a private browsing feature that is called Incognito. This particular feature will prevent their browser from storing any cookies that accumulate history information of the websites that the user has visited. Chrome also includes a process management utility that is called the Task Manager. This utility will allow the user to see which websites and plugins are utilizing the greatest amount of memory. The user will also be able to determine which websites are downloading the most bytes which could possibly be over-powering the Central Processing Unit (CPU). Task Manager also provides the user with the ability to terminate any website. One very nice feature in Google Chrome is their New Tab Page. This particular page can replace the browsers Home Page and is displayed whenever a new tab is created. Thumbnails of the nine most-visited websites will be displayed and can be rearranged, pinned or removed from the page. The user will have the option to display text links in place of the thumbnails if they prefer. Chrome also allows the users to create desktop shortcuts that will open web applications in the browser. When the browser is opened by one of these shortcuts, the normal interface will not be displayed. Only the title bar will be displayed so not to interrupt or disturb what the user is attempting to do at that particular time. It seems as though Google has incorporated a lot of great features into their new browser. I have provided links below that will enable you check out every aspect of Google Chrome. The displayed images are that of the Interactive Information that is provided by Google on their website.
